Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve feeding property and prevent weld defects by applying porous metal plating on an electrode wire and letting lubricant be contained in the plating layer.
CONSTITUTION: Mild steel or low-alloy steel is used as material in the electrode wire used as a consumable electrode in gas shielded arc welding. The metal to be plated is copper in general and either of electroplating and chemical immersion plating may be utilized for the plating means, or it may be vapor phase plating, that is, vapor deposition. In the case of electroplating, however, it is necessary to control porosity through selection of current density and other electrolytic conditions and the same holds ture for the other plating means. Thence, the lubricant is coated and this may be any of conventional ones, and the amount of use is 0.1W0.5g per 10kg of the wire. In drawing after the plating, the porosity lowers and therefore the porosity of the plating layer is made 5W50% and the face elongation rate is made 60% or less. Since the pickling after the plating will increase porosity, the face elongation rate may be increased up to about 90%.
