Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound at a high reaction rate in high yield, by the reaction of an α,β-unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde or primary alcohol with a primary or secondary alcohol, in the presence of oxygen and a catalyst comprising a specific alloy.
CONSTITUTION: One or more compounds of the formula (R1WR3 are H or alkyl; z is -CHO) are reacted with one or more compounds of formula R4 OH (R4 is ≤10C alkyl or alkenyl), in the presence of oxygen and a catalyst comprising i) an alloy having an elementary composition of formula PdmXn (X is one or more selected from Te, Ni, Cr, Co, Cd, In, Ta, Cu, Zn, Hf, W, Mn, Ag, Re, or Sb; m and n are the numbers of atoms, and 0<n<5 when m is 1), or further ii) one or more alkali metal or alkali earth metal compounds, to obtain the title compound in high selectivity in one stage. Thus, side reactions can be suppressed, and the catalytic activity is maintained for a long term.
