Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease oxygen effectively by a method wherein oxygen in some vessel is first replaced with gas containing no oxygen and residual oxygen is removed by means of an electrochemical deoxidizing method when diminishing the oxygen concentration.
CONSTITUTION: Gas containing no oxygen, such as carbonic acid gas, nitrogen gas, etc. is sent into a chamber or a vessel 1 for housing food, etc., and oxygen concentration is decreased below several %. Direct current voltage from a direct current power source device is applied to an electrochemical deoxidizing device 3, whose cathode is a gas diffusion electrode and whose anode is an oxygen generating electrode and in which an electrolyte, such as caustic potash, etc. is admitted. Thus, the oxygen concentration in the vessel further lowers. Consequently, the electrochemical deoxidizing device may be small-sized and efficiently diminishes oxygen by a small quantity of the gas employed by jointly using both the gas and the device 3.
