Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide high-purity O2 in a simple and economical method by a process wherein two adsorption towers filled with molecular sieve having specific average pore size are connected in series and pressure incorease-decrease adsorption method is employed to adsorb and separate pressurized air.
CONSTITUTION: Air of 2W5 atms. is supplied from compressor 1, cooled 2, passes valve 3, and enters N2 adsorption tower 5 filled with zeolite molecular sieve having 5Å average pore size, where all of water CO2, and N2 and part of O2 is adsorbed. The remaining O2 and Ar passes through valve 6 and enters O2 adsorption tower 7 filled with the same molecular sieve, where O2 is adsorbed and Ar is discharged. At the time when O2 appears at the outlet of the tower 7, valves 3, 6, 8 are closed and valve 4 is opened to allow the gas in the tower 5 to be discharged until the atmospheric pressure is reached. Then, valve 6 is gradually opened to backflow the gas from the tower 7 to the tower 5. Next, the valve 4 is closed and O2 in tank 11 is pressurized 12 and guided into the tower 7 under pressure thereby to cause gas to be backflowed from the tower 7 to the tower 5. For example, when both towers are at 3 atms., valve 6, 9 are closed and valve 10 is open to transfer O2 in the tower 7 to the tank 11.
