Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high-nitrogen carbon steel which has uniform fine austenite crystal grains even after one or more annealings and cold rollings are repeated.
CONSTITUTION: This carbon steel is made by addn. of, by weight, 0.010W0.100% Al as sol. Al, 0.015W0.030% N as sol. N to a carbon steel for machine structural use, i.e., N must be added to an amount larger than the sol. N inevitably contained in the steel usually made by melting and ingot casting since the latter is 0.003W 0.010%. Even in annealed state, or after one or more annealings and cold rollings are repeated the carbon steel shows fine austenite crystal grains by uniforming grain size at the usual austenite temp., and its dependance upon temp. is small.
