Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent solidification of Na flowing into a cold trap first by arranging convection preventing plates in the cooling duct of the trap composed of an outer tube having an outer coolant pass and of an inner tube with an impurity capturing wire net packed and by heating the outer tube at the time of starting.
CONSTITUTION: Bottomless inner tube 2 having liq. Na outlet 3 is concentrically set in bottomed outer tube 1 having liq. Na inlet 1a. Large-diameter cooling duct 5 is placed round tube 1 to form coolant pass 6 between tube 1 and duct 5, and a plurality of convection preventing plates 11 are arranged in pass 6 at such a state that they can be drawn outward. Packing 4 such as wire net is packed in tube 2, and heaters 10 are attached to the outside of tube 1. When Na contg. impurities is charged from inlet 1a, by heating tube 1 with heaters 10 and fully pushing plates 11 in pass 6 beforehand the temp. difference between upper and lower portions of tube 1 within the zone divided with plates 11 is reduced to prevent solidification of Na flowing into tube 1 and generation of thermal stress in tube 1.
