Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately and readily correct pipe ends to the specified size and shape by heating the pipe end and inserting a pipe expanding jig into its inner side.
CONSTITUTION: The end part E of a cylindrical pipe P is heated and a support ring 1 mounted with a hydraulic cylinder 5 is placed along the outside circumference of the pipe P. Both locking pieces 4 are tightened by means of bolts and nuts to firmly install the support ring 1 to the pipe P. A cylindrical body 9 forming the taper 10 of a pipe expanding jig 7 is inserted into the inner side of the end part E of the pipe P and the pipe expanding jig 7 is connected by means of a fitting 11 to the end of the connecting rod 6 of the hydraulic cylinder 5. Next, the hydraulic cylinder 5 is operated to pull in the connecting rod 6 and insert the cylindrical body 9 into the end part E of the pipe P, thereby expanding the end part E to the specified shape and size. After the pipe P is restrained and cooled, the pipe expanding jig 7 and connecting rod 6 are removed and the support ring 1 is removed from the pipe P. Hence, the end part E of the pipe P becomes larger at the circumference by the thermally expanded length and its diameter becomes round owing to the shape of the taper 10 of the cylindrical body 9.
