Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size of a tidal prime mover, by providing an endless chain with foils with buoys which are collapsible only in one direction.
CONSTITUTION: An endless chain 4 is equipped with foils 9 which are collapsible only in one direction and buoys 10 are also fixed to the foil ends. As a tidal flow is produced in the arrow direction, the foils 9 receive the tidal force to move the endless chain 4 and power can be taken off through shafts 5, 6. Since the foils 9 are collapsible in one direction only, no flow resistance is produced by the buoys 10, being composed with the endless chain 4. This construction can reduce the size of the power take-off device and its application is very wide.
