Abstract

PURPOSE:To form scale excellent in adhesive property on a steel tool perforating steel tube so as to extend the service life time of the tool, by immersing the steel tool for in an aqueous inorg. acid soln. or in a molten salt, thereby activating the surface of the tool to form scale. CONSTITUTION:To prevent the fusion between a steel pipe and the surface of a steel tool for perforating the steel pipe, or local plastic deformation of the tool surface, scale is formed and adhered to the tool surface in order to prevent the direct contact of the tool surface with the pipe material so that both the materials are insulated thermally and are lubricated. For that purpose, the tool is immersed in aqueous inorg. acid soln. of pH not higher than 3, such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrofluoric acid etc., or in a molten salt in order to activate the surface. Then, the tool is heat-treated to form scale excellent in adhesive property on the surface. No local wear of, or no scale peeling from the tool surface is caused during use, consequently the service life time of the tool is extended stably.
