Abstract
PURPOSE: To form flocks in polluted waste water and to remove the flocks so as to clean the polluted water, by electrolyzing while producing ultrasonic vibration the polluted water with soluble anodes, and cathodes to which deposited metal hardly adheres.
CONSTITUTION: Anodes 1, 2 made of soluble metal such as Fe, Al, etc., and cathodes 3, 4 made of well polished metal such as Al or stainless steel, etc., to which deposited metal hardly adheres, are arranged in an electrolytic cell contg. polluted waste water. In addition, an ultrasonic vibrator 5 is put into the cell 7. Hereby, the electrolysis is conducted under ultrasonic vibration. A small amount of anodic metal such as Al, Fe dissolves in the water to form hydroxide of high activity. The pollutant is aggregated by the impacting pressure of cavitation caused by the irradiation of ultrasonic wave, and adsorbed or included by the hydroxide to form coarse flocks. The flocks are removed by floatation, sedimentation, or filtration, thereby cleaning the polluted waste water.
