Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A polycarboxylic acid or its ester of formula IWIV (R1 and R2 are H or alkoxycarbonyl; R3 is H, alkyl or alkoxycarbonylalkyl; R4 and R5 are alkyl; both R1 and R2 are not alkoxycarbonyl at the same time).
EXAMPLE: Dimethyl 7,8,9,10-tetramethoxycarbonyl-1,16-hexadecanedioate.
USE: A curing agent, crosslinking agent, etc. giving flexibility and impact resistance.
PROCESS: Cyclohexanone is reacted with hydrogen peroxide in an alcohol solution in the presence of an acid catalyst to give the alkoxycyclohexyl peroxide. The product is reacted with an organic acid ester VII in the presence of a ferrous salt to give the aliphatic long chain polycarboxylic acid ester having three or more alkoxycarbonyl groups and a≥10C carboxylic acid chain. If desired, the ester is hydrolyzed to give the compound IWVI.
