Abstract
PURPOSE:To make direct rolling possible, by blowing foams on a cast billet in a cooled zone or heated zone so as to control temp., thereby manufacturing high-temp. cast billet. CONSTITUTION:In order to manufacture a cast billet which is at a temp. as high as possible, temp. control is conducted so that the billet remains in the strand 6 until just before the inner unsolidified part is cut. For that purpose, foams are sprayed through nozzles 24 of a foam-supplying pipe 23 installed in a protective cover 13 to the strand 6 enveloped by the protective cover 13 in order to cover the strand 6 partly or entirely, whereby temp. control is conducted by varying the area of the strand 6 which is covered with foams in addition to the prevention of heat release. For the foams are used air foams, chemical foams, or hydrolyzed protein base foams which are used for extinguishing fire. This method permits to decrease some quantity of scale loss.
