Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly disperse metal-plated graphite grains in a molten Al alloy or Cu alloy, by providing a cover on the surface of the molten alloy to prevent the floating-up and separation of the graphite and by vortically stirring the molten alloy with a rotary shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A molten Al alloy or Cu alloy 2 is put in a crucible 1. Metal- plated graphite grains are thrown into the molten alloy while it is heated by an induction coil 3. A cover 4 made of graphite is provided on the surface of the molten material. A stirring shaft 5 is rotated to stir the molten material by blades attached to the tip of the shaft. The graphite grains are thus unifomrly dispersed in the molten Al alloy or Cu alloy without the phenomenon that the metal plated on the surfaces of the graphite grains is dissolved, the surfaces are oxidized and the wetting property of the grains to the molten alloy deteriorates.
