Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a tough tubular glass structure capable of preventing scattering of fragments, even if broken, by joining a plurality of glass tubes while interposing ringlike metal between tube ends.
CONSTITUTION: Short glass tubes 21, 22...2n are piled up while interposing each metal ring 3 for seal bonding glass between tube ends. An electric current is supplied to each ring 3 from electrifying terminals 5 to melt end glass with Joule heat, whereby glass inner pools 4, 4... are formed to join the adjacent tubes while burying each ring 3. Thus, tubular glass structure 1 is manufactured. By this method short glass tubes are electrically joined to easily manufacture a long-sized structure for a chemical plant, a solar house, underwater use or other use at a low cost.
