Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the harmful light which is propagated by bar-form optical fibers by providing scattering reflecting parts which comprise roughing the surfaces of the outside circumferences of the optical fiber bundle or the fibers forming the same to the overall length or one portion of at least one of said bundle or fibers.
CONSTITUTION: A bar-form optical fiber 3 is formed by a core 1 and clad 2. The surface over the entire length of the outside circumference of said optical fiber 3 or part of its end is roughened by sandpaper or the like to form a scattering reflecting part 4. These are gathered to constitute an optical fiber bundle 6. The light A entered at a small angle to the axis of the optical fibers 1 is totally reflected by the interface of the cores 1 and clads 2 and propagates in the fiber. Part of the light B entering at a large angle transmits through the interface and enters the clads, is diffusely reflected by the scattering reflecting layers 4 and does not enter the other fibers and therefore no harmful light is transmitted. By roughing the surface of the entire length or part of the optical fiber bundle 6 and coating the same with coloring resin or the like, the harmful light from the outside may be prevented.
