Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve castability and to reduce production cost by combining together the positive grid molded from a lead-calcium alloy and the negative grid molded from a lead-antimony alloy. CONSTITUTION:The positive grid is made from a Pb-Ca alloy containing at least 0.04-0.1wt% of Ca. The negative grid is made from a Pb-Sb alloy containing 1-3wt% of Sb. Making the positive grid from a Pb-Ca-Sn alloy containing 0.08 wt% of Ca and 0.35wt% of Sn is preferable, with improved castability. This constitution provides inexpensive, maintenance-free batteries.
