Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy of the density measurement of the target gas and prevent the malfunction of the device even when plural kinds of gases mix by detecting the age change of the electrical characteristic value of a gas detecting element with a change in temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A gas detecting element 1 whose electrical characteristic value is determined according to the density of the target gas, a device 6 which supplies electric power to a heater 4 so that the element 1 repeatedly assumes a high-temperature state and a low-temperature state and a device 5 which detects the age change of the electrical characteristic value of the element 1 for the specified time are provided. Here, the gas sensing body 3 on the the substrate 2 of the element 1 is composed primarily of tin oxide and has the characteristic that its electrical conductivity increases when contacted with butane gas or the like. The density of the target gas is measured with good accuracy from the age change of the electrical characteristic value of the element 1 with a change in temperature. It is also possible to simultaneously detect the kinds and densities of gases other than the target gas.
