PURPOSE:To improve accelerating performance and to save fuel expenses at the accelerating time by a method wherein the inertia efficiency of the flywheel of the automobile engine is enlarged at the time of the engine idle rotation and the vehicle backward movement to raise the rotation stability and made small at the time of acceleration and the middle- and high- speed driving. CONSTITUTION:When the transmission position sensor 19 is in the reverse position, or in the other positions than this and moreover the speed sensor 25 detects that the vehicle is running under the prescribed speed, said sensors despatch the prescribed signals and transmit the signals to the controller 21. Thereby the controller 21 operates the relieve of the electromagnetic clutch 13 and connects the flawheel 15 with the engine 1 through the middle gear 11 and the drive plate 5 to raise the inertia efficiency and the rotation stability. In cases other than the above, the flywheel 15 is not connected with the engine 1 and consequently the engine inertia efficiency is small thus to improve the acceleration and save the fuel expenses at the acceleration time.
