Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate troubles such as bubbling, etc., by the procedure in which at the start of operation, the pressure of reactor vessel is risen in advance and then sludge is heat-treated.
CONSTITUTION: At the start of operation of the reactor vessel 1, a fixed amount of preheated sludge is supplied to the reactor vessel 1 through the feed pipe 2 in advance, and then compressed air from the compressed air feed pipe 7 is supplied to a space above sludge layer through the upper part of the reactor vessel 1 to rise the pressure of the reactor vessel 1 to 6 to 9 kg/cm2. Afterwards, a 10 kg/cm2 compressed air is supplied from the feed pipe 6 at the bottom of the reactor vessel 1, whereupon an approx. 7 to 10 kg/cm2 pressure is exerted on the sludge at the bottom of the reactor vessel 1, with little pressure difference from the compressed air blown into the vessel. Thus, no expansion of bubbles occurs and thus the rising and overflow from the overflow sluice 4 of sludge can be prevented.
