Abstract

PURPOSE:To convert the steel texture to an austenite texture with uniform fine grain effectively, by a method wherein, until a low-carbon Ni-Cr-Mo steel is finally hardened, the heat treatment is repeatedly carried out at a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:A thick steel material comprising a low-carbon Ni-Cr-Mo steel containing C<0.20%, Ni; 3.5-6.5% is heat-treated from a high temp. to a low temp. successively over at least three temp. areas from a low temp. side within the heat treatment of a hereinafter described temp. area before the hardening is carried out from a final hardening temp. Tz(Ac3<Tz<Ac3+80 deg.C). That is, (A) said steel material cooled from an austenite area of a temp. Ty(Ac3+80 deg.C<=Ty<Ac3+120 deg.C) to an alpha-area, (B) cooled from a temp. Tx(Ac3+120 deg.C<=Tx<Ac3+160 deg.C) to an alpha-area, (C) cooled from a temp. Tw(Ac3+160 deg.C<=Tw<Ac3+200 deg.C) to an alpha- area, and (D) cooled from a temp. Tv(Ac3+200 deg.C<=Tv<Ac3+240 deg.C) to an alpha- area. After the heat treatment of (A)-(D) is carried out at least once, the above- described final hardening treatment is carried out to form an austenite grain with a uniform fine grain size.
