Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, useful as an improver of various resins and a raw material of heat-resistant polyimide resins, economically, by the reaction of specific phthalic acids, which are available in large quantities at a low price, with an alkali metal carbonate in an aprotic polar solvent.
CONSTITUTION: The title compound is obtained by the reaction of a 4-halo-phthalic acid, or its acid anhydride, e.g. 4-bromo-phthalic acid, with an alkali metal carbonate, e.g. potassium carbonate, and an alkali metal nitrite, e.g. sodium nitrite, in an aprotic polar solvent, e.g. dimethyl sulfoxide, at 80W200°C, esp. 100W150°C. The molar ratio of the alkali carbonate to the halogenated phthalic acid is preferably near the stoichiometry. And the molar ratio of the nitrite is preferably 5W30mol%.
