Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the metal particles of desired grain sizes and high sphericality by melting and dropping a metal wire material by the arc generated in the electrode opposing to the end of the travelling metal wire material and cooling the same.
CONSTITUTION: A switch SW is turned ON to generate and arc while supplying inert gas between an electrode 2 and the end of metal wire material 4. On the other hand, the metal wire material 4 is led into a cylindrical porcelain tube 7 by way of feed rollers 6 being driven by a motor 5. Thence, the metal wire 4 is melted and dropped by the arc, and at the same time the wire material 4 is run in synchronization with the rate of this melting, then the metal particles 8 of desired grain sizes are readily obtained. When the molten particle drops are cooled in air at this time, oxide films will be formed and therefore it is desirable to cool these by letting them drop into water or oil.
