Abstract

PURPOSE: An enzyme, which decomposes methylguanidine into methylamine and urea, is extracted from cells of a bacterium belonging to Alcaligenes.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism that belongs to Alcaligenes and can produce methylguanidine-decomposing enzyme, e.g., Alcaligenes N-81 (FERM-4368), is inoculated and cultured in an enriched liquid medium under conditions where the pH is kept 6.5W9.0 at the beginning and the temperature is maintained at 5.0W 10.6. Then, the cells are extracted to collect said methylguanidine-decomposing enzyme of 10.9W12.3 optimum pH and 5.0W10.6 stable pH.
