Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the steel ingot for production of integrally rolled wheel suited for higher speed vehicles by pouring molten steel material of good fracture resistance within the steel material of hollow cylindrical form of good abrasion resistance and fusion-bonding the same to the inside surface of the outer barrel steel material while supplying current to the molten metal slag.
CONSTITUTION: Steel material of good abrasion resistance such as high carbon steel is used and is rolled or forged to form a hollow outer barrel B which is then disposed in a mold 3. Thence, the molten metal A composed of steel material of good fracture resistance such as low-carbon high-manganese-aluminum added steel is poured and the end part of an electrode 5 is dipped in the molten slag 4 in the upper layer thereof to supply current between the slag and mold 3. The inside surface of the outer barrel B is melted by the joule heat of this current, by which the molten metal A is completely fusion-bonded. If the integrally rolled wheel is produced by using the resultant steel ingot, the abrasion resistance of the rim part and the fracture resistance of the boss part are both superior and this wheel is suited for higher speed and larger size vehicles.
