Abstract

PURPOSE:To promote an improvement of the catalysis and a prolongation of a life of the electrode deriving from a reinforcement, by providing a metal hydride electrode, that forms a metallic layer including a noble metal catalyzer, at one side of the hydrogen-containing alloy. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen fuel cell is constructed in such a manner that, by providing an oxygen electrode 14 and hydrogen electrode 12, interposing an electrolyte 13 between said both electrodes and feeding an air and hydrogen gas respectively to an air chamber 11 and hydrogen chamber 15, an output is obtained from a positive electrode terminal 16 and a negative electrode terminal 17. Said hydrogen electrode 12 is constructed by using a hydrogen-containing alloy, for instance, CaNi5 alloy, Ti2Ni type sintered alloy, etc. Said hydrogen-containing alloy is held by a foamed metal 1 like nickel. Then at one side of said foamed metal 1 contacted to the electrolyte 13, is provided a catalytic foamed metal layer 2 inert to the hydrogen and including a noble metal catalyzer like palladium, and at the other side contacted to the gas, is provided, for instance, a foamed metal layer 3 which is free of a noble metal catalyzer.
