Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain the activity of the captioned catalyst, which is obtained by holding the specific fine pore distributions in the columnar catalysts comprising carrying hydrogenation components to porous alumina having petal-form cross sections, for a long time stably and reduce pressure losses.
CONSTITUTION: The desulfurization catalysts comprising carrying hydrogenation components on porous alumina are made into columnar bodies, wherein 3W6 circles of the same diameter as that of the central circle are disposed around the circle of diameters about 0.4W5mm in cross section at an equal angle, the center-to-center distance of the central circle and circumferential circles is made about 1/4W3/4 of the diameter of the central circle and the height of the columnar bodies is made about 2W15mm. Further, the fine pore distributions of the catalysts are measured with a N2 gas adsorption method and are so arranged that the mean diameters within the range of fine pore diameters 0W600Å are 100W130Å, that the fine pore volume total of diameters of 90W140Å becomes 70% or more of the fine pore volume total of diameters of 0W600Å and that the fine pore volume total having diameters of 0W60Å becomes 10% or less of the fine pore volume total of diameters of 0W600Å. Further, arrangement is so made that the fine pore distribution conditions measured with a mercury penetration method are satisfied as well.
