Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the quality of product as well as reduce the loss of voltage by including dispersedly 2W60% (on the basis of asbestos fiber) a carbonaceous substance in a diaphragm for electrolysis consisting of asbestos fibers reinforced with a chemical-resistant resin.
CONSTITUTION: By including dispersedly 2W60% (on the basis of asbestos fiber) a carbonaceous susbtance in an electrolytic diaphragm consisting of asbestos fibers reinforced with a chemical-resistant resin, the swelling of the resin-inforced diaphragm during operation can be prevented. Thus, the rise of voltage due to long- term operation can be avoided, the loss of voltage can be reduced, the intrusion of gas from decomposition near the anode side of diaphragm into the cathode compartment can be prevented, the back diffusion of catholyte to the anode compartment can be prevented, and the quality of gas, e.g., hydrogen, generated at the cathode and gas, e.g., chlorine, generated at the anode can be raised.
