Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish coupling and uncoupling of shafts with ease, by inserting a shaft into a cylindrical shaft, and providing a retainer ring fitted on the outside of said cylindrical shaft in a shaft connecting device provided at the power take-off section of an agricultural tractor.
CONSTITUTION: Spline shaft 10 is formed with a circumferential groove 14, and boss 18 is formed with, for instance, a round hole 20 at its radial position. Ball 22 serving as locking member is fitted in the hole 20 in freely movable manner. When pin 26 is pushed by shaft 10 and stopper 36 is pushed upward by pin 26 against the force of spring 34 acted by the intermediary of pin 38, the stopper 36 is moved out of hole 24. When the shaft 10 is moved further to a position where ball 22 and groove 14 are registered with each other, ball 22 is forced into groove 14 by inclined portion 462 formed at front inner surface 46 of retainer ring 40. The ball 22 is retained from upward and locked in groove 14 by the parallel portion having a small width. With such an arrangement, coupling and uncoupling of shafts can be accomplished with ease.
