Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester chip ideal for any kind of molding by preventing adhesion-fusion of chips through heated agitation thereof in a mixing tank at the temperature between the secondary transition point and the melting point beforehand in the continuous heated current treatment of the chip at the moving bed.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to continuous heated current treatment of a polyester chip with a moving bed treatment device (hereafter called moving bed), the chip is subjected to a heated agitation with a mixing agitation device (hereafter called mixing cell) through an air or inert gas current at the temperature of the secondary transition point to the melting point to prevent fusion between chips during the treatment. In this manner, the generation of fine particles can be reduced while the retention time of the chips be made uniform in the device thereby producing a polyester chip ideal for the molding for strings, films, vessels or the like. The number of the mixing cells is preferably three or less. If one mixing cell is used, the retention time in the cell should be preferably 0.1W0.3 times as large as that in the moving bed. If three cells are used, preferably 0.2W0.5 times.
