Abstract

PURPOSE: To calculate the accurate quantity of flow by dividing the cross section of a river whose quantity of flow is to be measured into a measurable section and nonmeasurable section at a fixed position and by carrying calculation into effect giving consideration to the quantity of flow in the nonmeasurable section by measuring a mean flow rate in the measurable section.
CONSTITUTION: In a river flowing at water surface 15 into a shape of riverbed cross line 14, probes of an ultrasonic flow meter are fitted to supports 16 and 17. Althrough the mean flow rate of a lower-layer part between supports 16 and 17 between lines 20 and 26 is measured by measurement line 18, this sectional area is invariable constant. Next, although the mean flow rate of an upper-layer part between water surface 15 and line 20 is measured by measurement line 19, the sectional area varies according to an increase and decrease of water level 15. Further, the mean flow rate of a nonmeasurable section is previously meansured coving the whole section and the relation between mean flow rates of the measurable section and nonmeasurable section is found. From the above-mentioned measured values, the sectional area of the riverbed is found according to the water level and the mean flow rate of the nonmeasurable part is taken into consideration besides the measured mean flow rate, so that the precise quantity of flow can be found.
