Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable mass-production of thin batteries having a thickness of less than 1mm and having an excellent electrolyte leakage preventing property and a stable quality, by welding a sealing plate to an outer can of the thin battery to seal the opening thereof.
CONSTITUTION: An outer can 8 is formed of a weldable material. A first seal member 11 is firstly placed in the outer can 8, then an inner can 9 is pressued into it, and is is then filled with an anode depolarizing mix 2 and injected with an electrolyte 3. Next, a separator 4 is placed on it and a cathode depolarizing mix 1 is filled therein, and further a second seal member 12 is placed on the upper face of the inner can 9. Thereafter, a sealing plate 10 made of an electrically conductive weldable material is placed on them and pressed to compress said seal members 11, 12, then the sealing plate 10 is welded 14 to the outer can 8 to seal the opening and form a thin battery. This welding 14 is carried out by means of resistance welding, laser welding, electron beam welding, or supersenic welding etc. In this process, a seal agent 13 such as asphalt may be applied.
