Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a black image with superior photographic characteristics by treating a silver halide photographic emulsion with an aromatic primary amine color developer in the presence of 3-acylamino-5-pyrazolones and substituted parahydroxybenzaldehydes. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide photographic emulsion is treated with an aromatic primary amine color developer in the presence of one or more kinds of 3-acylamino- 5-pyrazolones represented by formula I and one or more kinds of at least one ortho- position hydroxy group-substituted parahydroxybenzaldehydes represented by formula II (where R3 is halogen, alkyl, aryl, heterocyclic, amino, substituted oxy, amido or the like). Exposed silver halide particles form a silver image with the color developing agent, the oxidized developing agent couples with the compounds of this invention to give a black dye. According, by a process of color development-fixing- washing a practically black dye image is formed.
