Abstract

PURPOSE: To simply produce zinc oxide with high electric conductivity in a simple apparatus by dry-mixing zinc oxide powder and Al2O3 powder with a predetermined average diameter and by heating the mixt. in the presence of solid carbon in a specified temp. range.
CONSTITUTION: 100 mols of zinc oxide powder are dry-mixed with 0.025W2.5, esp. 0.05W2.5 mols of Al2O3 powder based on Al2O3 with an average diameter below about 20mμ, esp. about 0.1W2 μ by use of a rotary container type mixer such as V-type mixer. The mixt. is then heated to 800W1100°C in the presence of solid carbon to produce desired electrically conductive zinc oxide. The solid carbon may be pref. powder, granular or lump charcoal. By this method highly electrically conductive zinc oxide can be obtd. using cheap Al2O3 as an activating agent.
