Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the long tension rod fitting work by forming a slit on a boss extending in the opening formed on a cranck case, and forming an engaging part on the bottom part of a tension rod so as to be fitted in the slit.
CONSTITUTION: A timing chain 16 extends between sprockets 15 and 14 fixed on the crank shaft 4 and a cam shaft 13 respectively. The tension of the timing chain 16 is adjusted by properly bending an elastic chain guide 18 by means of a chain tensioner 19. The chain tensioner 19 has a tension rod 21 which is slidably fitted in a guide hole 29 of a boss 28 formed jointly with the crank case 1 and projecting in an opening 5. The bottom part of the rod 21 is axially recessed, while the boss 28 is axially slitted to allow the recessed part of the rod 28 to pass. The rod 28 can be fitted in the boss 28 through the slit 31.
