Abstract
PURPOSE: To avoid the overlap of a dividing face and a runner vane and make the electron beam welding for joining runner pieces easier by providing the dividing face along the locus of the composed motion of runner motion in the axial direction and that in the circumferential direction.
CONSTITUTION: The runner band 1 of a water wheel runner can be joined and divided along a dividing line which consists a-b-c-d. Line segment a-b and line segment c-d are parallel to the axial line o-o', and line segment b-c corresponds to the locus of motion obtained by composing runner motion along the axial line and runner motion along the circumferential direction. The dividing line 2 is positioned so that it may not overlap a runner vane. The runner is made by casting runner pieces having separated faces 3, machining them and moving an electron beam gun along the dividing line 2. By so doing, the runner pieces are joined along the locus of motion obtained by composing motion along the runner axis and that along the circumferential direction, and so the runner pieces can be welded easily.
