Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent repellency in coating and to prepare a uniformly coated photographic material, by adding a surfactant of an alkaline earth metal sulfonate type as a coating additive to a hydrophobic organic colloid coating layer. CONSTITUTION:To 1 kg of a coating solution is added as a coated additive about 0.01-5, preferably 0.5-2 g of a surfactant such as formula III or IV represented by general formula I in which R is 8-18 C alkyl or formula II, R1 being 6-8 C alkyl and R2 being H or 1-12 C alkyl: A is 2-4 C alkylene; W is an alkaline earth metal; m is 1-10; and n is 0 or 1. The above surfactant may be used as an emulsifyer for dispersing in a gelatin solution a high boiling organic solvent dissolving photographic additives hardly soluble in water, and in this case the surfactant is added by 0.5-50 wt. pts., preferably 1-10 wt. pts. per 100 wt. pts. of these additives.
