Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an easy-handleable title material having excellent malt-preparation suitability, by (1) crushing vegetable protein or carbohydrates suitable to malt preparation, (2) treating at high temperature under high pressure, (3) rapidly expanding by reducing the pressure, and (4) pressing the expanded product.
CONSTITUTION: A raw material such as wheat, barley, soy bean, wheat-gluten bread, kaoliang, etc., is mixed with water to obtain a water content of 20W50%. The mixture is treated at 110W150°C under a pressure of ≥ 20 kg/cm2, pref. 50W80 kg/cm2, for about 2W20 seconds. The treated raw material is rapidly released into a low pressure atmosphere. The expanded raw material thus obrained, having a water content of 10W30%, is pressed with a pair of rollers to attain an apparent specific gravity of 0.3W0.6.
