Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a desired fluorescent substance without forming secondary particles by fractionating a fluorescent substance of a required diameter by water elutriation and evaporating the water in the presence of alcohol to dry the substance.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent substance of various diameters calcined and pulverized, e.g. self-activated zinc oxide is charged into an aq. soln. of a dispersant such as sodium hexametaphosphate, optionally stirred well, and subjected to water elutriation to fractionate some substance of a required diameter. After adding alcohol such as ethanol, the substance is heated to 100W130°C to evaporate the water and alcohol, thus obtaining the desired very dry fluorescent substance of the required diameter contg. no water and forming no secondary particles.
