Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the leading end of an optical fiber acting as a connecting portion from being damaged and blotted by forming a recessed deep groove in a portion of a V-shaped groove. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber quiding V-shaped groove 5 of an optical fiber connecting block 4 is locally recessed to form a deep groove 6. As a result, an optical fiber is inserted in a manner that the leading end is quided and positioned in the groove 6 by the groove 5 thereby to connect the optical fiber. Thus, this optical fiber has its leading end prevented from being damaged and blotted, and the groove 6 acts as a reservoir for a connecting liquid so that the optical fiber caon be connected without any loss to a satisfactory extent. Like results can be obtained if the recessed portion is formed into a round deep groove.
