Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of the shaped form of a thin, large-sized steel pipe by shaping the pipe at 700-300 deg.C in the cooling process for tempering in heat treatment of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:Hardened steel pipe 1 is heated with induction heating coil 3 to the tempering temp. and passed through primary air-blast nozzle 4. Pipe 1 is cooled to 700-300 deg.C suitable for shaping in nozzle 4 and passed through shaping unit 5, where it is shaped round with horizontally shaping rolls 7 and vertically shaping rolls 8 of unit 5. The shaped pipe is then cooled with secondary air-blast cooling nozzle 6 and conveyed to the next process. When the shaping temp. exceeds 700 deg.C, little shaping force is required, yet the roundness is deteriorated by above 1%. Unless the pipe is shaped at below 700 deg.C, deformation may occur after the shaping. In case of shaping at below 300 deg.C, residual stress is generated. Thus, by shaping the pipe at 700-300 deg.C, a large-sized steel pipe of superior roundness is obtd.
