Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately adjust the relative positions of a recording medium and scanner by reading the position detecting mark indicating the sub-scanning direction of the scanner formed on the recording medium and performing recording and reproducing while adjusting the relative positions of the scanner and recording medium based on this. CONSTITUTION:Arc-form information lines 32 and a position detecting mark 33 indicating the linear moving direction (sub-scanning direction) of a scanner 1 have been recorded on a recording medium 16. At the time of reproducing such recording medium 16, the position of the mark 33 with respect to an auxiliary beam is read with a photo detector 29, by which the relative position of the scanner 1 and the recording medium 16 is adjusted and the information lines 32 are scanned. Since performing position adjustment with each of a plurality of the information lines 32 in this way enables the sub-scanning direction of the scanner 1 with respect to the recording medium 16 to be perfectly aligned to the direction at the recording, the information having been recorded may be accurately reproduced.
