Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 7-substituted-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid of formula I: [R1 is formula II, III, or IV (X is S, O, or imino, acylimino group); R2 is H, lower alkenyl, lower alkyl group; R4 is H, halogen, or lower alkyl group], its derivative at the carboxyl group, and its salt.
EXAMPLE: 7-[2-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-dithiin-5-yl)-2-methoxyimino acetamide]-3-cephem- 4-carboxylic acid (syn-isomer).
USE: Antibacterials having a wide antibacterial spectrum. The syn-isomer has an outstanding antibacterial activity.
PROCESS: A compound of formula V: (Y is halogen) is reacted with a thiol compound of formula HX-R-SH (R is carbonyl, ethylene, or o-phenylene group) to form the compound of formula I.
