Abstract

CONSTITUTION:The cation exchange membrane used is made of fluorine-contg. polymer having sulfonic acid, carboxylic acid or their derivatives as exchange groups. As the Cl2 gas impermeable film for coating the anode side surface of the membrane which does not contact with an anolyte, a film with corrosion resistance to the anolyte is desirable, and it is made of tetrafluoroethylene polymer, ethylene- tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, etc. or a cation exchange membrane with small ion exchange capacity can be used. The impermeable film is heat bonded to the membrane. The bonding may be extended slightly to the part which contacts with the anolyte.
