Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the wear of rolls removing slip between the working rolls and the auxiliary rolls by making the circumferential speed of both the rolls equal.
CONSTITUTION: The sides of the working rolls 1 and 2 are kept in contact with the respective auxiliary rolls and a motor 5 rotates a gear transmission comprising gears 7 and 8. An output shaft 10 of the gear 8 is connected to an auxillary roll 3 through a spindle 11 while the output shaft 10 of the gear 8 to a working roll 1 through a spindle 13. The tooth ratio of the gears 7 and 8 meshed with each other is made equal to the ratio between the diameter of the auxiliary roll 3 and that of the working roll 1. Thus, the circumferential speed of both the rolls is equalized. Accordingly, the torque transmitted to the roll 1 is a sum of the torpue form the spindle 13 and the torque transmitted from the roll 3 due to the friction.
