Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect the detection of a magnetic tape without any influence from dusts or the like by making recording density marker signals (ID burst) of a plurality of bursts having a phase according to the recording densiry thereby to detect the phase synchronism upon reproduction.
CONSTITUTION: The ID burst 2, which is recorded in a magnetic tape 1, is divided into a plurality of regions, which are alternately recorded in a preset phase which is different in accordance with the recording density. The signals reproduced from the burst 2 is fed to a loop circuit, which is composed of a phase detecting circuit 14, an integrating circuit 15 and a voltage control oscillator 16, so that they are compared in phase with the burst signals corresponding the recording densities of two differnt modes which are generated from the oscillator 16 in accordance with the control signals of a control circuit 17. Thus, in accordance with the output of the oscillator 16, which is produced upon coincidence with the burst signals of any mode. In this instance, it is possible to detect the record due to the satisfactory synchronism without any influence from scratches or dusts on the tape 1 by means of a portion of the burst regions which are divided in plural.
