Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the dispersion characteristics which depend upon wavelengths of light by having a means of detecting and comparing the output light of the light transmitted through the optical guide and reference light. CONSTITUTION:Before entering the multimode fiber transmission part 9 to be measured, light pulses 18, 20 are partly distributed by a half mirror or variable mirror 6, and are then detected as reference light with a photo detector 12. On the other hand, the light pulses having transmitted through the multimode optical fiber transmission path 9 to be measured are detected with a photo detector 11. By observing the waveforms of the two light pulses having been respectively detected with the photo detectors 11 and 12, the sum of the construction dispersion and material dispersion of the multimode optical fiber transmission path 9 to be measured is obtained.
