Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent chattering without deteriorating S/N by outputting vehicle detection signals when the output signal of a detector circuit is longer than a fixed time width and expanding the transmitted wave width of ultrasonic waves after outputting.
CONSTITUTION: This detector is constituted by ultrasonic wave transmitting and receiving head 1, amplifier 2 to amplify the ultrasonic wave received by head 1, detector 3 where the output of amplifier 2 is inputted, receiving wave width detector 4 where the output of detector 3 is inputted, vehicle decision circuit 5 where the output of detector 4 is inputted, ultrasonic transmitting wave width switching circuit 7 where the output of circuit 5 is inputted, oscillator 8 for driving head 1, gate 9 for the output of oscillator 8, and gate controller 11 which receives signals from circuit 7 and switches the length of the gate opening time. Here, a vehicle detector circuit is constituted by detector 4 and circuit 5, and a transmitting wave width control circuit is constituted by circuit 7 and controller 11.
