Abstract

PURPOSE: For an inexpensive mass production of high-purity zinc oxide crystal powder having C face of hexagonal system, a zinc compound is dissolved in a strong alkaline solution, then zinc oxide microcrystals are synthetized by hydrothermal reaction from spontaneously generating nuclcus in a process of redeposition.
CONSTITUTION: A new process eliminates the need of inoculation and the condition of temperature gradient in high pressure container, and permits the use of a commercially available general reagent zinc oxide (average particle size about 0.3 micorns) as source material. In such a condition, a predetermined amount of zinc oxide is dissolved into a strong alkaline aqueous solution, then uniform hexagonal plate zinc oxide microcrystal is prepared by hydrothermal reaction from spontaneously generating nucleus in a process of deposition. Inclusion of 2 to 6 Li ion in the strong alkaline solution is useful to obtain more preferable crystal powder for directive ferrite source material having a ratio of width/thick (1/t) being 5 or more. Preferable preparation condition is selected such that a reaction temperature ranges from 25° to 400°C, with a pressure being 200 to 1000 atms. The resultant crystal powders have diameters of about 0.5 to 20 microns.
