Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically produce Cu2O of superior quality at a constant rate by neutralizing an aq. soln. of NaCl contg. CuCl with alkali under limited conditions; aging the resulting product; and regenerating and circulating the effluent.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. of NaCl contg. CuCl is charged from reduction vessel 1 into neutralization vessel 2 sealed with N2 gas 7. The soln. has a compsn. consisting of Cu; 50W75g/l, NaCl; 230W280 g/l and free HCl; 2W10 g/l. It is then heated to about 90°C and neutralized with alkali 9 such as NaOH so that 3W10% of the Cu component remains as CuCl. The resulting precipitate is aged in vessel 3 under 1.5W10 kg/cm2 at 130W180°C for 5W30 hr and separated 4 to recover product 12. On the other hand, the effluent is poured into vessel 5 and hydrochloric acid 10 is added. The mixt. is then fed to vessel 6, treated with air 11, and circulated to vessel 1.
