Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a lighting tube, in which at least one of fixed electrode and movable electrode is coated with zinc, to improve starting performance of the tube in the dark with no use of radioactive substances or the like. CONSTITUTION:Either of or both of fixed electrode 4 and movable electrode 10 are coated with zinc. For instance, a fixed electrode 4 obtained by applying electric plating of zinc 9 on nickel wire 8 and a thermally movable electrode 10 made of inner leading-in wire 5 and bimetal 6 connected together are disposed in a glass tube 1 in the manner facing toward each other, and a readily discharging gas is sealed in the tube 1. With such an arrangement, active surface is formed on the surface of zinc 9 of electrode 4, with 1-2min of short aging after shaping of the lighting tube, and it results that initial electrons essential for starting discharge are readily emitted from the surface of electrode. Thus, a lighting tube having a short start-up time also in the dark can be obtained.
